Obituary

Warren – It was on April 25, 1945, a baby boy was born to parents, William J. Leon Sr. and Nellie S. Szepietowski. Having M.S. for 36 years, he overcame several health issues, then on December 23, 2022, at the age of 77, he was chosen to rise up and the gates of heaven opened.

His name was William "Bill" J. Leon Jr., a lifelong resident of Warren, nicknamed, "Moose."

Bill was a 1963 graduate from Warren G. Harding High School, where he was in the Harding Band and the Warren Junior Marching Band. He went on to graduate from the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University in 1968. Having a love for music, Bill continued to play in the W.D. Packard Concert Band.

Retiring from the Lakeview (Cortland) school system, Bill taught music for 28 years and was Assistant Band Director with Mr. A. Sam Core. Bill was most proud of the marching band's showmanship and with the concert band, receiving high marks during state contests. Preparing the Jr. High and the Bazetta Elementary programs were important to Bill and frequently offered free music lessons.

Bill was strict, but soft-hearted. He was of Catholic faith and a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

His enjoyment was the get-togethers with the 1963 gang, listening to music CDs, watching the Cleveland Indians and the Browns, watching gameshows and playing bocce at the Howland Scope Center.

Fond memories will be remembered by Bill's sister and caregiver, Patricia (Gary) Leon-Games; sister, Kathleen (George) Fuller; several nieces and nephews; a daughter and also, Howie, a diabetic poodle who became a loving companion to Bill.

Preceding in death were Bill's parents; a brother, Richard Leon and two children, Katherine and Douglas.

Gratitude and thanks to all the doctors, nurses and healthcare workers who cared for Bill during his years of health problems and also for the many calls from friends. A special thanks to nephew, Michael Games.

Private services have taken place.

Contributions may be made in Bill's name to The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County, 812 Youngstown Kingsville Rd SE, Vienna, OH 44473, OR to St Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
