A. Joseph Zakrajsek Obituary

Warren – A. Joseph “Joe” or “Zak” Zakrajsek, 102, of Warren passed away on Saturday evening, June 15, 2024 at Trumbull Regional Medical Center.

Zak was born on August 23, 1921 in Warren, OH, a son of John and Mary (Kushar) Zakrajsek. He attended Warren City Schools and then enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during World War II.

Zak was awarded 3 stars for his service in 3 invasions: Utah Beach, Omaha Beach and Okinawa. He was proud to have fought for his country, but humble when it was brought up in conversation. After being honorably discharged, Zak continued to serve his community through his involvement with the Trumbull County VFW 2662, most recently serving as chaplain.

Upon returning from the war, Zak joined Veteran’s Excavating Company working alongside his brothers. He eventually took a job with Packard Electric, dedicating over 35 years to the company.

Zak was a man of many talents and passions. A master gardener, He took immense pride in his garden, joyfully canning and sharing his produce with friends and family. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid sports fan, especially of football. His sharp wit and great sense of humor, which will be deeply missed, brightened the lives of those around him. Above of all, Zak cherished his family and friends and enjoyed spending time with those he loved.

Zak will always be remembered by his daughter, Darlene (John E.) Kellar of North Bloomfield; His grandchildren, Eddie Kellar of Mecca and Tami Kellar of Cortland; great grandchildren, Paul, Isabella and Nicholas Joseph Kellar; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, Zak was preceded in death by his siblings, John, Louis “Butch,” Rudy and Jennie Zakrajsek and Mary (Frank) Holko.

Family and close friends are invited to celebrate Zak’s remarkable life on Saturday, June 29, 2024 from 2 to 3pm at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel of Warren, 1884 North Road NE.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Zak’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, OR to Akron Children’s Hospital, ATTN: Volunteer Services Akron Children's 6505 Market Street Boardman, Ohio 44512 .
