Andrew (Charles) Kotwis of Warren died on February 26th, 2024.
He was born in Boydsville, Belmont County, Ohio, on August 12, 1939. Charles was the only son of the late Andrew and Victoria Sophia Piatek Kotwis. Known by friends and family as “Charles,” he attended St. John’s Central High School in Bellaire, Ohio. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Europe during the Korean Conflict.
He graduated from Kent State University in 1963 with a Business Administration Degree. He also attended the University of Maryland and played collegiate basketball for the College of Steubenville. His love of sports inspired his children and gave him great pleasure throughout his life.
Andy was a career master steel salesman in the 60s and 70s. Over the decades, he held several sales positions in Charleston, West Virginia, and Youngstown, Ohio. Andy was the Resident Sales Manager in Louisville, Kentucky. Then, he became the District Sales Manager for the Cincinnati Sales office of Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. He later became Vice President of Sales for Transworld Fabricating Inc. of Niles, Ohio, in 1977. Andy also worked for Syro Steel and retired from J. Allen Steel in 1998.
“Charles” had a zest for life that was shared with all of his family and friends. There was never a Polka Festival, Fish Fry, or roadside farmers market that escaped his eye and excited attention.
Andy married the former Jan Perzanowski in St. Clairsville, Ohio, on July 27, 1963. He also leaves behind to treasure his memory: His wife of 61 years Jan, the daughter Beth Kotwis Carmichael (Blair), and sons Joe (Betsy), John (Teresa), and Jim (Becky). Andy was proud and impressed by the accomplishments of their eight grandchildren: Kaylee Helfrich (Eric), Jared, Julia, Drew, Claire, Alaina, Zachary, and Patrick Kotwis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nancy Lee Kotwis Zaccagnini. Per the family’s wishes, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
