Carol G. Alex

Warren - Carol Alex, who believed in kindness, bonus rounds and the power of a well-timed joke—even in life’s hardest moments—passed away on June 3, 2025.

Carol was born on November 17, 1947 in Warren, Ohio, a daughter of the late John Sr. and Margaret (Surin) Gnat. Carol was a proud graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Class of 1965, where she met and later married her high school sweetheart, Greg Alex—who’s no doubt already showing her around a heavenly car show.

A graduate of Kent State University, Carol spent decades teaching first grade at Jefferson Elementary, shaping young minds with warmth, patience, and an unwavering belief in every child’s potential. Even after retiring, she continued to tutor adults working toward their GEDs—because being a teacher wasn’t just her career, it was her calling.

Carol was fiercely devoted to her three daughters and absolutely adored her grandchildren. She cherished family parties, trivia nights, playing the slots and cheering for all things Cleveland sports—win or lose.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and stories that will be retold at family gatherings for generations. In her honor, hug your kids, root for the underdog and play the max bet!

Carol will always be remembered by her daughters, Amy (Mike) Sindelar of Avon, Ohio, Holly (Tom) McVicar of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan and Wendy (David) Austin of Las Vegas, Nevada; grandchildren, Greg Sindelar and Olivia and Morgan McVicar; sisters, Joyce (Rudy) Zakrajsek of Howland and Nancy McRoy of Rochester, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Andrea Gnat of Warren and many loved nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, Greg Alex and brother, John Gnat Jr.

Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Carol on Saturday, June 14, 2025 from 10am to 12 noon at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel of Warren, 1884 North Road NE.

A Funeral Service will follow at the funeral home at 12 noon.

Entombment will be at Crown Hill Burial Park.
