Girard – Cleo “Cleopatra” Shinas, 87, passed away Monday, July 30, 2018 at Davis Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland.
She was born October 1, 1930, in Samos, Greece, the daughter of the late John and Efthimia Vartzikos.
Cleo came to the United States in 1947. She had worked at Royal Lighting as a sales clerk for fifteen years. Cleo was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Warren, Senior Citizens Club, Yiasou Club, and the Ikarian Club all at the Church. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time with her family and friends.
Cleo continued to love life, her family, and friends even while suffering with Multiple Sclerosis and other health issues.
She is survived by her husband Perry C. Shinas whom she married June 7, 1953, a son John D. Shinas of Atlanta, GA, Mary Anne (Eugene) Molnar of Ormond Beach, FL, and Lea (Mike) Wiertel of Bratenahl, OH, four grandchildren Athena (Joe) Merklin, Taylor Molnar, Aegeas Wiertel, and Elijah Wiertel, two great grandchildren Hailee, and Hunter, a brother George (Demetra) Vartzikos of Chicago, a sister Xeni Anemodoura of Greece, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother Nick Vartzikos a sister Marina Sarantou and a great grandson Zander Merklin.
Family and friends may call Friday, August 3, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. With a 6:00 p.m. Trisagion Service at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel 1884 North Rd. NE, Warren, Ohio 44483 and Saturday, August 4, 2018 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church 429 High St. Warren, Ohio 44481.
A service will be Saturday, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church with the Fr. Constantine Valantasis officiating.
Burial will be in Pineview Cemetery in Warren.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Cleo’s name to the Nativity of Theotokos Monastery in Saxonburg, PA or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
