Costas Polychronis Obituary

WARREN, OHIO - Costas “Gus” Polychronis entered into the kingdom of heaven in the early hours of Monday, October 14, 2024 after 88 years on this earth. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

Gus was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania on July 13, 1936 to Polidoros and Erminia (Mastromichli) Polychronis.

He was a graduate of Warren G. Harding and attended Youngstown State University. After high school, he proudly joined the United States Army.

Gus married the love of his life Phyllis (Smith) Polychronis on July 2,1956. Gus and Phyllis raised five daughters.

He lived a determined, successful life, revolving around his family, friends and his Greek Orthodox Faith.

Gus made special memories with his family boating on Lake Erie, especially enjoying picnics and family gatherings.

Gus is survived by his loving daughters Debbie Owens (Bill), Pauline Kurtz (Hans), Christine Tucker (Douglas), Diane Polychronis, Sharon Grover (Stephen) and his nine grandchildren: Jennifer Morgenstern (Bryan), Christopher Gravink, David (Erin) Reamensnyder, Costas Reamensynder, Nicholas (Mariah) Grover, Paul (Abbie) Grover, Phillip Grover (Lauren), Hannah Kurtz, Grace Grover, his loving sisters Bessie Kefalas and Tina Polychronis and his Godson, Peter Kefalas, with whom he had a special bond with, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, great-grandchildren and lifelong friends all whom he cherished.

Gus is preceded in death by granddaughter, Rachael Grover Realini and his parents, Polidoros and Erminia Polychronis. A special thank you to his special longtime friend Father Constantine Valantasis and his wife Karen of the Greek Orthodox Church.

Gus spent countless years in the workforce and was a hard working businessman. He retired from Van Huffel Tube Corporation where he served the local Labor Union #1361 as president for many years. He started several of his own businesses: Poly Tech Tube, Thermos Lance Inc, and Poly Mini Storage. He was well known and respected in the steel industry. He was honored to be part of President Jimmy Carter campaign. He has a photo of President Carter and himself hanging in his office.

Gus welcomed leadership opportunities in his community. He served on the Trumbull County Mental Health Board, St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church Board, and President of the Ahepa Association.

Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Gus from 10:30 am until 11:30 am on Friday, October 18, 2024, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 429 High St. NE, Warren, where a Funeral Liturgy will follow at 11:30 a.m. with the Revs. Constantine Valantasis and Demetri Constantine presiding.

Burial will follow at Champion Twp. Cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Rd. NE Warren.

In lieu of flowers they family suggested donations can be made to St. Demetrois Greek Orthodox Church in Gus’s memory.
