Warren – Donald Eugene Johnson, 90, of Warren passed away on Saturday morning, May 10, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
Donald was born on August 9, 1934 in East Liverpool, OH.
He was a 1951 graduate of the Ohio School for the Deaf and went on to attend Gallaudet University, where he played basketball and wrestled.
Donald moved to Warren where he worked for Van Huffel and then Sawhill Tubular, having a 40 plus year career. He and his family attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church for many years and attended St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in recent years.
Donald was very active in the community and in his family life. He enjoyed bowling and coaching little league in his younger years. He was also an active member of the Warren Club for the Deaf, having held a number of positions over the years. Donald and his wife, Phyllis, loved to travel, having visited several countries. Most of all, Donald was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His presence, wisdom and smile will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Donald will always be remembered by his beloved wife of 66 years, Phyllis (Conte) Johnson of Warren; daughters, Carol (William) Chandler of Warren, Susan DeVengencie (fiancé, William Lucas) of Warren and Mary (Joseph) Evans of Girard; son, Donald Jr. (Robin) Johnson of Raleigh, NC; nine grandchildren, Katie (Marco) Gutierrez, Abby (Shawn) Brainard, Olivia (Zack) Hayslett, Natalie (Samuel) Young, Anthony III (Emily) DeVengencie, Jessica Evans (fiancé, Joel Tacsik), Courtney (Benjamin) Sanders, Madison (Eric) Moreno and Kennedy Johnson (fiancé, Brett Kuck); thirteen grandchildren, Sienna, Kipton, Wyatt, Stella, Troy, Scarlett, Harrison, Anthony IV, Eli, Owen, Carmella, Emery and Oliver.
Besides his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his great grandson, Mattis.
Donald’s family honored him with private services led by The Very Reverend Monsignor Robert Siffrin with an entombment at All Souls Cemetery.
