Dr. Samuel Pipes Obituary

Warren – Dr. Samuel James Pipes, beloved father, physician, and community pillar, passed away peacefully at the age of 80 in Warren on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at St Joseph Hospital in Warren.

He was born on June 18, 1943 in East Liverpool, OH to Claude Raymond and Mary Ethel (Hays) Pipes. He was raised in Chester, WV and graduated from Chester High School.

Dr. Pipes' life was marked by a profound dedication to the healing arts and a boundless love for his family and community.

His academic journey began at West Virginia University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and a Master of Science in Biochemistry. His passion for science and caring for others led him to the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he received his medical degree in 1972. His medical career was illustrious, including an internship at Warren General Hospital, where he also met his future wife, Cecelia, and extensive practice at both Washington Street Medical and Palmyra Medical Centers, before he established his own private practice which thrived due to his dedication and the deep trust he earned from his patients.

Dr. Pipes served with distinction as the medical director of Meadowbrook Manor Nursing Home in Fowler, OH and Signature Healthcare in Warren, OH. In addition, he served several years on staff at St. Joseph Hospital, Trumbull Regional Hospital, Vibra Hospital of the Mahoning Valley, and Select Specialty Hospital. His commitment to health and wellness extended to the football fields of LaBrae and Southington High Schools, where he was previously a team physician.

A member of the American Osteopathic Association, and the Western Reserve Academy of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Pipes was a lifelong learner and a mentor to many in the medical community.

Beyond his professional profile, Dr. Pipes was a devoted Cleveland Cavaliers fan, finding joy and excitement in every game season. His love for culture was expressed in his numerous trips to New York City to enjoy Broadway plays as well as exploring various historical museums.

Dr. Pipes' legacy is carried on by his wife of 46 years, Cecelia (Kerns) Pipes of Warren; son, Dr. James Pipes (Krista Minter) of Ravenswood, WV; daughters, Melinda Pipes of Washington, DC and Elizabeth (Louie) Kooshkalis of Hudson, OH; grandchildren, Stephen, Hayley and Leila Kooshkalis and Scarlett Pipes, as well as many loved in-laws, nieces and nephews who remember him as a guiding light full of wisdom, warmth and kindness. He also will be memorialized by a community forever grateful for his contributions and compassion as a physician.

Dr. Pipes was preceded in death by his parents and his elder brother, William Pipes.

Dr. Pipes' family will honor him with a private service at All Souls Cemetery in Cortland.
