Tyler, TX – Gregg Alan Armstrong, 63, passed away on (Saturday, September 14, 2024 with his family by his side.
Gregg was born on February 5, 1961 in Warren, OH, a son of Lorenz William and Shirley (Ronyak) Armstrong.
He was a 1979 graduate of Warren Western Reserve High School and went on to attend Hiram College; playing football at both schools. He later earned Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from California State Fullerton in California.
Gregg was a dedicated coach and educator. He was a long-standing football, track and power lifting coach at Jacksonville High School in Jacksonville, TX for many years. He also coached in Mineola and Flower Mound, Texas. Prior to his coaching and teaching career he was a manager with Skaggs Alpha Beta grocery store chain for many years.
Outside of work, Gregg enjoyed bass fishing, hunting and, not surprisingly, was a an around sports fan especially cheering on The Ohio State University and Cleveland Browns. Most of all, he was a dedicated husband, loyal friend and kind man. Gregg will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gregg will always be remembered by his wife of 39 years, Christine (Ciancone) Armstrong of Tyler, TX; sisters, Brenda (Michael) Capps and Larraine Lawson; nephews, Lorenz Armstrong, Paul Michael Armstrong, Gregg Lawson and Preston Capps; brothers-in-law, John (Stacey) Ciancone of Cortland, OH and James (Diane) Ciancone of Boardman; Ciancone nieces, Casie Ann, Sophia (Nick), CeAnna (Malik), Angelina and Nicole (John).
Besides his parents, Gregg was preceded in death by his in-laws, Imolo and Jane (Sferra) Ciancone; and brother, Larry Armstrong.
Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Gregg on Saturday, October 12, 2024 from 10 to 11am at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel of Warren, 1884 North Road NE.
A Funeral Service will follow at the funeral home at 11am
Private inurnment will be at All Souls Cemetery in Cortland, Ohio.
