Niles – Helen B. Hathaway, 86, of Niles passed away on Saturday afternoon, January 31, 2026 at Gillette Nursing Home in Warren.
Helen was born on July 27, 1939, in Sharon, PA, a daughter of the late Fred and Nell Bentley.
Helen was a 1957 graduate of Sharpsville High School and went to work for Packard Electric where she met her husband, Walter “Wally” Hathaway. The two were married on June 15, 1961. After a 30-year career at Packard, Helen retired as a Reoperation operator.
Helen was devoted to her family. After her husband’s passing in 1985, Helen took great care to spend time with her family, especially her son, Rick, her brother, Raymond and her grandson, Corey. They enjoyed attending festivals and picnics together and their time together was cherished. Helen also enjoyed the company of her shih tzu dog, Gizmo, whom she trained very well. She will be remembered for her compassion and focus towards her family.
She is survived by her grandson, Corey A. Hathaway of Warren; stepdaughter, Suzanne Wilmer; two step grandsons Shawn and Vincent; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Horner of Warren; her special niece and caregiver, Carol Theiss of Hartsville, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Helen is preceded in death by her husband, Walter “Wally” Hathaway; a son Rick A. Hathaway; two brothers John Brandt and Raymond Bentley and three sisters, Marjorie Howard, Dorothy Pavlick and Rose Heeter.
Per Helen’s request there will be private services and an entombment in Pineview Memorial Park in Warren.
