Helen Klein, 99, of North Jackson and formerly of Warren passed away on Monday morning, September 22, 2025 at Gillette Nursing Home in Warren.
Helen was born on March 16, 1926 in North Jackson, OH, a daughter of the late Wasyl “Charles” and Anna Smerchansky and was a 1944 graduate of North Jackson High School.
Besides being a proud homemaker, Helen went on to work for Catholic Charities. She also volunteered with the Warren Board of Elections for 20 years as an election counter. Helen enjoyed music and always stayed active. For over 40 years, Helen would walk the neighborhoods where she lived. She was joined at times by family and friends including niece Nancy and future daughter-in-law Mary. Even into her nineties, while living at the Antonine Village in North Jackson, Helen was known as “the walker.” Whether it was on a walk or quietly enjoying one another’s company, Helen cherished time spent with those she loved and she will be deeply missed.
Helen will always be remembered by her sons, David Klein of Warren and Robert (Mary) Klein of Virginia.
Besides her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her daughter, Donna and siblings, Rose Bequeath, Mary Ann Bucco and John, Mike and Pete Smerchansky
Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Helen on Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 9:30 to 10:30 am at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish – St. James Church Site, 2532 Burton St. SE Warren, OH 44484.
A Funeral Mass will follow at the church on Thursday at 10:30 am with Rev. Christopher Cicero officiating.
Burial will follow at All Souls Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Helen’s name to Antonine Village at 2675 North Lipkey Road, North Jackson OH 44451.
