Janet B. Dobos

Warren – Janet B. Dobos, 99, of Cortland passed away on Sunday morning, September 8, 2024 at St. Joseph Hospital.

Janet was born on December 24, 1924 in Ruwnew, Poland, a daughter of Marion and Theofila Sobolevski.

Growing up in Poland, Janet completed primary school and then was displaced during World War II. She met the love of her life, Michael J. Dobos Sr., and the two were married in 1946. Later that same year, Janet arrived in the United States, with Michael following shortly after being discharged from the war.

Janet was a strong-willed woman and cared deeply for her family. “No” was not in her vocabulary. She was a very talented seamstress, specializing in gowns which she made for many family members and friends. Janet was also a wonderful cook and baker and was known for her delicious pies.

Most of all, she loved and cherished the adventures and moments she shared with her family. Janet will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Janet will always be remembered by her daughter, Theresa “Terry” Argeras of Cortland; granddaughter, Christina (Dr. J.J.) Fonagy of Cortland and great grandchildren, Joey and Francesca Fonagy.

Besides her parents, Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Michael J. Dobos Sr.; son, Michael Dobos Jr.; sister, Heidi Sobolevski and son-in-law, Samuel Argeras.

Janet’s family honored her with a private Funeral Mass at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Blessed Sacrament Church, with a burial at All Souls Cemetery.
