Niles - John Joseph Spain, beloved husband, dad, papa, brother, and brother-in-law, entered into eternal rest on Monday, January 1, 2025, with his loving family by his side.
John was born on August 16, 1942, the oldest child of Joseph John Spain and Lena Marie Segreto. John had 5 wonderful siblings. He leaves Mary (Earnie) Nicholas of College Station, Texas, Thelma of Burton, Ohio, Rose (Sam) Crank of Bradenton, Florida, and JoAnn (Bob) Price of Burton, Ohio. John was pre-deceased by his brother, Thomas (Linda) Spain.
John was a 1960 graduate of Warren Harding High School. He served in the U.S. Army and U.S./Air Force Reserves from 1964 to 1967 and was honorably discharged from the Air Force Reserves in 1967.
John had been employed by Alcan Aluminum, Republic Steel, and General Motors. John retired in 2003 after 38 years of dedicated service at the General Motors Lordstown Plant. He was employed on the Final Line as an Inspector and served in various UAW 1112 elected and appointed positions including Health and Safety Inspector, Zone and District Committeeman, a member of the Shop Committee, and Manpower Coordinator.
He married the love of his life, MaryAnn Nevin, in 1964 and they shared 60 wonderful years together. They had two loving sons, Michael (Paula) and Mark. John was the very proud Papa of Michael's two sons, Tyler John and Jacob Michael.
John was a member of the Howland Athletic Club (having coached baseball for many years), organized the Howland Quarterback Club, a member of Local 1112 Retirees, and a member and volunteer (pizza, festival) of Saint Pope John Paul XXIII church (formerly Mt. Carmel).

Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to John on during memorial calling hours on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 from 9 to 10:30am at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel of Warren, 1884 North Road NE.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11am at Saint John Paul XXIII Church in Niles, 381 Robbins Ave.
