Joseph Sabat Obituary

Joseph Sabat, 87, of Howland, passed away peacefully in his home on April 19, 2024.

Joe was born on March 29, 1937 to Joseph and Caroline (Biega) Sabat.  He graduated from Warren G. Harding High School before starting his career as a machinist at Copperweld Steel for 15 years and later the Fisher Body Plant of General Motors for 27 years.

Joe could fix and build almost anything and he took special joy in staying busy through craftsman work and gardening while listening to Polka music.  He was never too busy to help a family member or friend in need.  He was an active member of St. Joseph Parish (St. Mary and St. Joseph) where he contributed to many projects.  Joe really enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, often traveling great distances to see the games.  He especially loved trips to Canada to fish where so many fond memories were made with all members of his family.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Claudia; son Joseph (Debbie) and daughter Mari; daughter-in-law Patty; grandchildren Joseph Jr. (Emily), Carly (Zack Kesler), CJ Hura (Katie), Tom Hura (Shannon), Steven Jr, and Ben (Kayla); and 6 great-grandchildren.  He will be dearly missed and his legacy of kindness and guiding example will live on through them.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jenny (Geddis), and a son Steven.  As Joe entered into heaven, we imagine Steven was there to welcome him with two fishing poles, ready to go on their greatest adventure.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all those involved in the medical and home care of their beloved husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa.

Joe’s life was celebrated with a private ceremony and burial at St. Joseph Cemetery on Tuesday April 23.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the professional care of the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North rd. NE, Warren.
