Joyce Mae (Addicott) Rowlands

Warren – Joyce Mae (Addicott) Rowlands died on Sunday morning, September 1, 2024 at Hospice House in North Lima, after a brief illness.

Joyce was born on November 5, 1931 in Warren, OH to Ashley and Ida Mae (Thornton) Addicott. Three siblings, Rachael Avinger, Charles Addicott and Richard Addicott preceded her in death.

Joyce was a 1949 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. She married John S. Rowlands Jr. on December 30, 1950 and they enjoyed 42 years of marriage before his passing in 1992.

She is survived by their three children, John Rowlands (Mary Grace Holloway), Richard Rowlands (Jane Locklin) and Laura (Paul) Di Liello and four grandchildren, Brad, Katie and Claire Rowlands and Tessa (Daniel) White.

Joyce worked at Packard Electric before her children were born and then in the law office of John Kurtz after they were older.

A lifelong member of Central Christian Church, she devoted much time and energy there serving as deaconess and elder and assisting with decades of pecan roll sales and other activities.

Joyce volunteered for many organizations over the years, especially enjoying her time as an AARP tax prep volunteer, working blood drives with the American Red Cross and making Sojourn bears for cancer patients.

An avid reader and traveler, she was a weekly visitor to the Howland Public Library and enjoyed traveling all over the world. She visited her children when they lived overseas, joined church trips to Europe, stayed at the beach and enjoyed cruises with friends, her daughter and even alone. Joyce had proudly visited 54 countries and all 50 states.

Joyce was also a lifelong baker. Her children and grandchildren all have a long list of their favorite treats that she made. As an avid game player, she will be sorely missed by her cards and dominoes groups at Shephard of the Valley in Howland.

Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Joyce on Friday, September 6, 2024 from 10 to 11am at Central Christian Church, 2051 E Market St, Warren, OH 44483.

A Funeral Service will follow at the church at 11am.

A private burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
