Maria Liakaris

Warren - Maria Liakaris, 91, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Continuing Healthcare of Niles.

She was born February 10, 1933, in Kipouries, Chios, Greece, the daughter of the late Panteli and Kalliopi Dontas. She was married to her husband of 65 years, Dimitrios Liakaris.

Maria came to Warren in 1978 from Greece. She was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Warren. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, and traveling to Greece.

She is survived by her children, Anna (Louis) Paxos, Louis (Peggy) Liakaris, and Lori Liakaris, all of Warren; eight grandchildren, Evi, Jimmy and Chris Paxos; Dimitrios (Tanya), George (Cher), Marios (Amy), Mary (Chris Tambures, fiancé) Liakaris, and James Liakaris; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Mike Dontas of Bethlehem, PA; sister-in-law, Paraskevi Dontas of Brooklyn, NY; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dimitrios Liakaris; son, Haralambos (Bob) Liakaris; and brother, Panayioti Dontas.

Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Maria on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 10 to 11am at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Chruch, 429 High St NE, Warren, OH 44481.

A Funeral Liturgy will follow at the church on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 at 11am with Rev. Constantine Volantasis presiding.

Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Maria’s name to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 429 High St NE, Warren, OH 44481, OR to the St. Paraskevi Church  in Fyta, Chios, Greece.
