Maria Tsagaris

Dunedin, FL – Maria Tsagaris, 98, of Dunedin, Florida and formerly of Warren, OH, passed away on December 26, 2024.

Maria was born on July 4, 1926 in Athens, Greece, a daughter of Stephanos and Alexandria (Hatzigeorge) Hatzialexiou.

As a teenager, Maria learned to sew and, eventually, was a designer and seamstress for the Upper Class Society of Athens, Greece.

In 1961, Maria came to the United States, settling in Warren. She and her husband, Kostantinos “Gust” Tsagaris, were co-owners of Tsagaris Tailor Shop on Pine Street, where Maria was the head seamstress. In 1984, after 23 years in business, Maria and Gust moved to Dunedin, Florida to enjoy their retirement. 

Even after retiring, Maria enjoyed sewing, but also enjoyed traveling and had a deep devotion to her Greek Orthodox faith as a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Clearwater, FL. Most of all, Maria will be remembered for being a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many. 

Maria will always be remembered by her children, James Tsagaris of Dunedin, FL and Elenie (Dimitrios) Mantos of Warren; grandchildren, Mary Lyn (James) McNally of Warren, Amanda (Michael) Hilas of Warren and Agapi (Adam) Tzagournis of Cleveland; great grandchildren, Demetria, Elenie, Andonia, Niko, Dimitrios and Dialechti; sister, Angeliki Boukouvalas of Athens, Greece and many loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides her parents, Maria was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Kostantinos “Gust” Tsagaris; brothers, Elias and Kostantinos Hatzialexiou and sister, Anthoula Psarras.

Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Maria on Thursday, January 2, 2024 from 10 to 11am at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 429 High St NE, Warren, OH 44481.

A Funeral Service will follow at the church on Thursday at 11am with Rev. Constantine Valantasis and Rev. Demetrios Constantine presiding.

Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
