Champion – Palmer J. Antonelli, 84, of Champion passed away on Saturday morning, May 17, 2025 at Washington Square Nursing Facility after an extended illness.
Palmer was born on March 14, 1941 in Warren, Oh, a son of Joseph Sr. and Velma (Ruscitti) Antonelli.
Palmer was a 1958 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and then served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served honorably in Germany in the 8” Howitzer Artillery Unit as Fire Direction Chief. For his service, Palmer was cited as an Expert Rifleman and was awarded with an honorable discharge.
Upon returning home, Palmer had a 40 year career, working at Packard Electric in the GMC division as a tool and die maker.
Outside of work, Palmer had many interests, including fishing, skiing, gardening, wood working, reading, riding his motorcycle and listening to music. He was a member of the Warren YMCA, a Red Cross volunteer and a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. Palmer followed the Ohio State Buckeyes passionately. When they were playing, all else stopped. Most of all, Palmer was a family man. He was proud of the fact that his paternal and maternal grandparents immigrated to the U.S. from Italy and became legal citizens in the late 1800s. He cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. He loved spending time with and caring for his wife. Palmer was always there to help and could face any challenge without hesitation. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Palmer will always be remembered by his wife of 54 years, the love of his life, Lenore Marie (Masciangelo) Antonelli of Champion; daughters, Christine Marie (John) Chapas and Karen Ann (Lewis) Maddox; grandchildren, Natalie Marie, William Palmer and Peter John Chapas and Devin Garrett and Alyssa Grace Maddox and brother, Joseph Michael (Nancy) Antonelli of Columbus, OH.
