Columbus – Philip C. Bardos, 89, formerly of Warren, passed away Tuesday, September 25, 2018 in Columbus.
He was born December 3, 1928, in the village of Koskinou on the island of Rhodes Greece the son of the late Christos & Sofia Bardos.
Born & raised in Rhodes Greece. Philip served in the Greek Army stationed on the island of Crete during the Korean War. He met his wife Sevasti “Sylvia” in 1957 in Rhodes and moved to Warren Ohio in 1957. He was a steel worker for 15 years upon arriving in the United States. During this time, he attended night school at Youngstown State University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Education. He began his 17-year teaching career in 1972 where he taught Spanish at Warren Western Reserve High School. In addition, he taught Spanish, Italian and Greek in night school until his retirement in 1989.
He was very proud of his Greek heritage and enjoyed listening to Greek music, cooking, watching soccer and spending time with his 3 grandchildren.
Philip was a member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Warren where he had been active and previously served as a board member of the Church.
He is survived by his wife Sevasti “Sylvia” Bardos they were married for 61 years, two sons: Christos “Chris” (companion Kimberly Stewart) Bardos and Kyriakos “Kirk” (Susan) Bardos, three grandchildren Kristina (David) Call of Chicago Illinois, Philip (Katelyn) Bardos of Fort Worth Texas, and Halle Bardos of Dublin Ohio, and a sister Aphrodite (Christos) Petavrakis of Rhodes Greece. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews including his goddaughter Kristin (Dan) Quinn of Chardon Ohio. He was very close to his cousin Phillip (Mary) Anastasiadis of Warren.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Vasilios “Bill”, and Georgios “George” Bardos.
Family and friends may call Friday, September 28, 2018, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church 429 High St. Warren, Ohio 44481.
A service will be Friday, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church with Fr. Constantine Valantasis officiating.
Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Warren.
