Warren – Phyllis B. Savakis, 85, of Warren passed away on Monday evening, February 3, 2025 at her home, surrounded by her family.
Phyllis was born on February 24, 1939 in Ikaria, Greece, a daughter of Anthony and Sevasti Binikos. She and her family came to the United States through Ellis Island in the early 1940s, settling in Warren.
Phyllis was a 1958 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School and went on to marry Gust A. Savakis in 1963.
Phyllis worked as an administrative assistant for the Warren City school system for 30 years. She was also the co-owner of the Hippodrome in Warren alongside her husband from 1986 until Gust’s passing in 2005.
Outside of work, Phyllis enjoyed gardening and collecting. She was an art enthusiast and was a frequent volunteer for the Trumbull Art Gallery. Phyllis was a fan of classic movies and plays, which showed in the décor of the Hippodrome. She was also member and volunteer for the Upton House and a devoted member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Warren.
Phyllis will always be remembered by her son, Alex Savakis (John Ricchio) of Concord, CA; daughter Sevasti Celeste Tripoulas of Warren; grandchildren, Dallis and Stefani Tripoulas of Warren and Anthony J. Corbisello of Warren; brother, John A. (Sandy) Binikos of Carlsbad, CA; godson, John T. Kondilas; loving cousins and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Gust A. Savakis and her son-in-law, Anthony A. “Tony” Corbisello.
Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Phyllis on Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 10:30 to 11am at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Chruch, 429 High St NE, Warren, OH 44481.
A Funeral Service will follow at the Church at 11am with Rev. Constantine Volantasis and Rev. Dimitri Constantine presiding.
Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Phyllis’ name to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 429 High St NE, Warren, OH 44481.
