Warren – Raymond G. Groat, 96, of Warren passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at his home.
Raymond was born on February 3, 1929 in Warren, Ohio, a son of Paul D. and Florence (Hartman) Groat.
Raymond was a lifelong member of First United Church of Christ in Warren.
Prior to Raymond’s graduation from Warren G. Harding High School in 1947, he worked at Quinby Market in Warren, starting at age 14. After graduating from high school, Raymond attended Youngstown State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a major in accounting. Upon completion of college, Raymond was drafted into the United States Army, where he completed the U.S. Army’s Financial Procedures Course in 1954..He was awarded an honorable discharge for his service. His career in finance led him to the position of Vice President of Finance for Taylor Winfield Corporation, from where he retired.
In 1952 While he was completing his college education and service in the U.S. Army, Raymond was also working diligently on building he and his wife’s home. During the time he was working on their home, he married Vilma, the love of his life, .
Outside of work, Raymond was an avid reader and investor in the stock market. Ray loved being outside and spent every free moment working on the yard, spending many hours keeping it beautifully manicured. He also enjoyed participating in his bowling and golf leagues after work. Most of all, he cherished his family and friends and his presence will be surely missed by all who knew and loved him.
Raymond will always be remembered by his three sons, Thomas L. Groat of Warren, Jeffery S. (Teresa) Groat of Chicago, IL, and Douglas R. Groat of Warren and two grandsons, Max and Ted. He will also be remembered and missed by his primary caregiver of six years, Echo Seidler of Girard.
Besides his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Vilma (Lubi) Groat and brother, Wilbur (Mary Ellen) Groat.
Raymond’s family honored him with private services, followed by a burial in Crown Hill Cemetery in Vienna.
