Renate Roman Obituary

Renate Roman, 84, passed away on Sunday afternoon, June 22, 2025 at Humility House in Austintown.

Renate was born on July 18, 1940, in Neunkirchen (Saarland), Germany, to Jakob and Erna Weber. She met and married Francis W. Roman while he was stationed in Germany on active duty. Together, they shared 40 years of marriage before his passing on April 15, 2022. Renate immigrated to the United States as a young woman, proudly supporting her husband’s 20-year military career as a devoted military wife, and became a U.S. citizen in 1967.

She worked at Super K-Mart for many years and eventually retired from there. Beyond her career, Renate found joy in home projects and spending time with the people she loved most—her family. She was not only the best mom and grandma, but also the heart of the family, offering unwavering love, support, and strength through every stage of life.

Renate was the kind of mom and grandmother you wanted to bring on vacation or take out dancing because she always brought the fun. She had a gift for making people laugh and a spirit that lit up any room. She was a force of nature, both nurturing and fierce, and always put herself last to give more of herself to those she loved, especially her grandchildren, with whom she shared deep, lasting bonds.

She never showed up empty-handed and always left you feeling more cared for than before. Her grandchildren were truly blessed to have had her in their lives for so many years. The stories, the laughter, the nicknames like “Shi Shi” and “German Freight Train”—these are memories they will carry with them forever. Renate was the matriarch of the family, and her legacy of love, generosity, and joy lives on in each of them.

Today, we raise our hearts and a glass in gratitude. Cheers to our mom, our Shi Shi, our German Freight Train. Thank you for a life of unwavering love, for always showing up, for lifting us with laughter, and for giving so much of yourself to all of us. You did more than your share, and you did it with heart. Job well done, Mom. We will love you forever.

Renate will always be remembered by her Children, Frank (Dawn); Jeanette (Craig) and Kimberly (Michael); loving grandchildren, Justin, Ryan, Corey, Kayla, Kevin, Brandon, Paige, Peyton, Preston, Pryce and Mikey; her beloved great-grandchildren, Bodie, Colten, Breck, Collins, Oliver, Elliot, Collins, Jettson, Caden

Renate’s family will honor Renate with a private funeral service held Wednesday, June 25.

Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery, Bazetta.
