Cortland – William “Bill” Pahon, 96, of Cortland passed away on Wednesday evening at Ohio Living Lake Vista.
Bill was born on July 18, 1928 in Pulaksi, PA, a son of Charles and Anna (VanSuch) Pahon.
He was a graduate of Johnston, OH High School and then enlisted in the United States Army in 1950. Bill served during the Korean War and was awarded an honorable discharge for his service.
Upon returning home, he married the late Beatrice E. Nicolaus in Warren, OH in 1952. Bill began work for Copperweld Steel. Shortly after, he worked for American Welding, where he had a 32 year career, retiring in 1991 as a production machine operator.
Outside of work, Bill was a member of St. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Warren, now St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish. He enjoyed traveling, playing golf and woodworking. To many, he was known as “The HandyMan” and would never miss an opportunity to help someone. Most of all, he adored his family and cherished the time he spent with those he loved. Bill will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bill will always be remembered by his three daughters, Terry (Thomas) Lance of Cortland, Patricia (Dennis) Whetstone of Bristolville, and Sherri (Michael) Thompson of Winter Park, Florida; seven granddaughters; sixteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and sisters, Betty (James) Denman of Johnston, OH, Mildred “Millie” Brainard of Cortland, Florence “Flo” Hutton of Cortland and Nancy Downing of Geneva, OH.
Besides his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Beatrice E. “Bea” (Nicolaus) Pahon; two brothers, Michael and Alex Pahon and three sisters, Helen Altendorf, Anna Schultz and Kathryn Parry.
The Pahon Family would like to thank all of the Lake Vista Employees, Hospice and friends for the loving care and compassion they provided during Bill’s care.
Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Bill on Monday, November 25, 2024 from 12:30pm to 1:30pm at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel of Warren, 1884 North Road NE.
A Funeral Service will follow at the funeral home at 1:30pm
Burial will follow at All Souls Cemetery.
