Champion – William E. “Bill” Spurk, 89, of Champion, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, July 17, 2025, with his loving wife and daughter by his side.
Born May 13, 1936, in Warren, Ohio, Bill was the son of Raymond and Clara (Lane) Spurk. He attended Warren G. Harding High School and was a proud United States Army Veteran.
Bill began his professional journey with the Grinnell Corporation, where he advanced to the position of office manager. After the company closed, he joined his brothers as co-owner of M.V.G., Inc., a family business he helped run for over 40 years until his retirement in 2006.
Bill was of the Catholic faith. He was known for his many talents and determination—anything he set his mind to, he accomplished. His kindness, work ethic, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Bill is survived by the love of his life, his devoted wife of over 67 years, JoAnn (Crepage) Spurk, whom he married on June 21, 1958. He also leaves behind his daughter, Lynn Courtney; a beloved granddaughter, Rachel Dalton; and three step-grandchildren: Miranda (Nick) Balas, Christian (fiancé Alex) Courtney, and Blaine (Cassy) Courtney. Bill was also blessed with two step great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Courtney. He will be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, Chuck Courtney; three brothers, Raymond, Robert, and John “Jack” Spurk; and three sisters, Dorothy Naples, Delores “Toots” Vesey, and Rose Smith.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road NE, Warren, Ohio.
Bill will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery in Vienna.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice.
